About Me

I am a seventh-grade language arts teacher at Warner Middle School (WMS) in Xenia, Ohio.  I have a master of education degree in English Language Arts, and I am currently enrolled in coursework through Udemy to be certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I believe furthering my knowledge and education in this area will help me better address students' concerns of trauma and anxiety in the classroom as well as support students' social and emotional learning (SEL)—two factors that directly impact each child's academic success.

Challenged by school when I was young, I believe I have a unique perspective that helps me gauge my instruction to meet the learning needs of all types of students.  Warner Middle School has been my home for 23 years.  My father retired from Warner Junior High in 1999.  During his career, he served as the school's art teacher for 30 years in Room 105.  He too has a unique knack for engaging the minds of middle-schoolers.  My mother was also an art teacher in Piqua City Schools.  She retired after 30 years in 1998 but continues to serve as a Guest Teacher in the Fairborn City School District.

I am married to the strong supporter of my life, Sarah Pyle Cafaro, who also comes from a family of teachers.  We have a twenty-six-year-old son, Urban, who earned a bachelor of communications degree from Ohio University.  Twenty years after Urban was born, our family welcomed another son, David Roman ("Roman"), whose unique name is inspired by the biblical figure King David as well as the salvation verse from the Book of Romans.
Today, Urban is married to Alexa Cafaro, from Donnelsville, and they purchased a home in Kettering. Roman began his first year at Dayton Christian Schools as a kindergartner. My family and I reside in Dayton, with extended family living in Xenia, Kettering, Beavercreek, and Columbus, Ohio; Dallas, Texas; New York City, New York; Baltimore, Maryland; and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Quite a geographic mix!
I look forward to our year together as we explore a variety of topics through many different genres while practicing essential skills in English Language Arts.
