  • What is bullying? Bullying is a repeated and deliberate act to make someone feel uncomfortable or unhappy.

Why do people bully others? Usually, it's because making someone else feel unhappy is the best way a person knows to make themself feel good about who they are.

In reality, people who are bullies think that, by making other people feel bad, other people think they are clever or funny. They don't realize that, when they are deliberately mean or cruel, they are drawing attention to themselves. They are showing the people around them that they can be unkind for no reason.

You do not build yourself up when you are mean to someone else. Your friends are not built up when they are mean to someone else. Like the old adage says, if you aren't going to say something nice, don't say anything at all. And don't let your friends say unkind things either.

10/23/23

  • October is National Bullying Prevention Month. The most common forms of bullying include making someone the subject of rumors or lies; making fun of someone; insulting someone; and calling someone names.  Those are not “fun” things that friends say to friends – these are ways people try to hurt one another.  So the next time you get angry about something or with someone, stop and think before you speak.  Ask yourself if you would want someone to say to you what you are about to say. Don’t be a bully.
