Stadium Renovation Phase I Approved

XCS Ready to Tackle Doug Adams Stadium Renovation
Posted on 12/15/2022
At its regular meeting on Monday, December 12, the Xenia Community Schools Board of Education approved an agreement to complete phase one of a capital improvement project at Doug Adams Stadium.

This first phase of renovation, scheduled to be completed in 2023, will address the areas of highest concern: stadium lighting, bleachers, and the press box.

Current lighting and electrical systems have become unreliable, and the bleachers themselves are also showing the wear and tear of hundreds of thousands of guests over many decades. Both the lights and the center section of the home bleachers were installed in the mid-1950s, when they were moved from what was then Central High School.

Planned improvements for phase one:
▪️ Lighting – Replace all four light poles with energy-efficient LED; includes all new electrical wiring for those structures.
▪️ Stands – Replace fan seating with ADA-compliant options, increasing seating for the home team from 3,500 to 4,000 seats. Away stands will increase from 1,500 to 2,000 seats.
▪️ Press Box – Replace structure at the top of the home bleachers with a single-story structure that will include an open observation deck above.
▪️ Parking – Add 110 parking spaces adjacent to the stadium.

The agreement approved the Design-Build contract for Diverse Building Solutions, Inc. In addition, the lighting project will be completed by Techline Sports Lighting, LLC. The bleachers will be constructed by Sightlines Athletic Facilities LLC and Outdoor Aluminum.

The renovation process will necessitate the demolition of the current locker room facilities located beneath the bleachers. Mobile units will be in place for the 2023-24 school year, with the goal to use them for only one year.

Doug Adams Stadium is a high-traffic facility, and has averaged 2,500-3,000 visitors for each Friday night football game this fall. In addition to high school and middle school football, the stadium is used for soccer, lacrosse, and track teams, as well as youth leagues and local club soccer teams. It sees hundreds of competitions throughout the spring, summer, and fall each year.

Once the initial phase of renovation is complete, a second phase would include other major areas in need of renovation, largely focused on locker rooms and other site structures.

Previous improvements to the facility included replacing the track in 2017, and the turf field in 2015.
