Artist Bryan Collier at Cox Elementary

Artist Bryan Collier Visits Cox Elementary
Posted on 04/20/2023

Thanks to the Greene County Library, our Cox Elementary students in grades 3-5 met Artist Bryan Collier, who made a real impact on them with his dynamic presentation! Students learned about Mr. Collier's art, as well as his life path that ultimately led to 23 years of illustrating 46 books (to date!) and winning multiple awards for his work.

Among his many awards, Mr. Collier is a four-time Caldecott Honor Recipient, received five Coretta Scott King Illustrator Awards, and three Coretta Scott King Honors.

In preparation for the day, students created art similar to Mr. Collier's style to learn more about him. Third graders in Mrs. Thomas's class created a fun welcome sign, while fourth grade students in Mrs. Gerrard's class worked on a collage that was showcased on the wall at the entrance to the gym. Our fifth grade students in Mrs. Latimer's class wrote letters to him about which book of his was their favorite and created displays that mimicked his art for each book.

A special thank you to the local partners who donated Xenia "swag" for a gift basket presented to Mr. Collier in thanks for his visit:
