High-Flying Fun: Xenia Students Compete in 2nd Annual Drone Delivery Challenge

The future took flight at Benner Field House this past Saturday, May 2! Fifty aspiring pilots from all five Xenia elementary schools gathered for the second annual Drone Delivery Competition, showcasing impressive technical skill and precision.
Thirteen teams navigated the arena, piloting drones to make "deliveries" to detailed models of Xenia schools and local businesses.
After a day of high-stakes maneuvering, a few teams soared above the rest:
Tecumseh’s "The Drifters" took home the top prize, with Cox team “The Packages” coming in a close second. McKinley team “Shadow Fours” won the autonomous delivery part of the competition in a tiebreak over another McKinley team, “Wingardium Deliveriosa”. “The Drifters” also won the Best School Model award for their model of Tecumseh Elementary.
It wasn't all about the competition! Students and families enjoyed a front-row seat to the professional side of tech with live demonstrations from Sinclair Community College, showcasing their Unmanned Aerial Systems department, and the Xenia City Fire Department, who demonstrated how drones assist in first-responder scenarios.
Congratulations to all our student pilots for a spectacular show of STEM excellence!
