XCS Facilities Management

The district is currently following a Facilities Master Plan which addresses maintenance needs for all buildings. The plan is based on an extensive assessment from the State of Ohio completed in 2017-2018, and the district has been doing maintenance work on every property, and will continue to do so.

We are committed to building maintenance to keep all of our buildings warm, safe, and dry for students.

Read on for an overview of the work happening in buildings across the district:

  • Xenia Community Schools operates five elementary buildings, serving nearly 2,000 students in grades K-5:

    • Arrowood Elementary
    • Cox Elementary
    • McKinley Elementary
    • Shawnee Elementary
    • Tecumseh Elementary

Current elementary buildings began serving local students in 2013, and feature modern concepts in design to create a positive learning environment.

    UPDATES & PROJECTS
Recent improvement projects in our elementary buildings include replacing inefficient lighting with LED fixtures, replacing all hallway flooring throughout each school.

  • Opened in January 2025, the new Warner Middle School offers a space equipped for 21st century learning. The building includes an academic wing with a floor for each grade, a regulation gymnasium, flexible classroom and other learning spaces that will engage students and put them on the path for success in high school and beyond.

  • Over the past several years, the district has completed multiple major projects to improve Xenia High School for current students:

    • Replace B-wing Roof (2024)
    • New safety windows and doors (2024)
    • Bob Hope Auditorium (re-open fall 2020) – A complete renovation of this historic space includes: new stage and house lighting, stage curtains, sound, projection system, seating for 710, and flooring throughout. Learn more.
    • Exterior/Parking Lot Lights (summer 2020)
    • Domestic Hot Water System (summer 2020)
    • Replaced lights throughout the building with energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures (summer 2020)
    • Parking Lot (summer 2019)

PLUS, numerous painting and minor renovation projects to maintain the facility.

I remember hearing about the possibility of replacing the high school? Why is that not part of current plans?
The Visioning Committee, which was made up of representatives from across the community including parents, local officials, teachers, staff, and board members, looked at the costs to replace or make major additions to the building. Ultimately, it was determined that the cost of funding two facilities was simply too much to tackle at one time and that the focus needed to be on Warner Middle School.

  • In November 2019, Benner Field House was reopened after being closed for several years. In 2019, the district worked to make this historic building safe and usable for the next generation of student athletes! Renovations in this phase included extensive exterior masonry work, as well as refinishing the floors thanks to the Doug Adams Trust. Other improvements include the addition of new speakers and interior paint.

Future phases of the Benner Field House restoration could include renovation of both the locker rooms and bathrooms, as funding becomes available.

  • Capital improvement projects at Doug Adams Stadium from 2023-2025 have been completed in two phases:

    Phase I Projects (2023)

Lighting – Replace all four light poles with energy-efficient LED; includes all new electrical wiring for those structures.
Stands – Replace fan seating with ADA-compliant options, increasing seating for the home team from 3,500 to 4,000 seats. Away stands will increase from 1,500 to 2,000 seats. Reorient the field with the home team stands located on the west side of the field.
Press Box – Replace structure at the top of the home bleachers with a single-story structure that will include an open observation deck above.
Parking – Add 110 parking spaces adjacent to the stadium.

    Phase II Projects (2024-2025)

    Three Locker Rooms:
      1) an 80-locker facility for football and lacrosse,
      2) a 40-locker Boys Locker Room, and
      3) a 40-locker Girls Locker Room.

Each of these will be used seasonally for soccer and track, as well as space for visiting teams during the football season.

Community Room – This large-yet-flexible gathering space would be part of the new field house structure, and designed to serve multiple group functions, as well as offer basic kitchen facilities.

    Replacement Turf (Summer 2025)

Previous improvements to the facility included replacing the track in 2017, and previously replacing the turf field in 2015.
