Cox Elementary Students Explore Sustainability at Montgomery County Environmental Learning Center

Over the past week, Cox Elementary School students took an exciting field trip to the Montgomery County Environmental Learning Center as part of their year-long project focusing on sustainability!
As Cox works toward earning their official STEAM designation, bringing learning to life with experiences like this is what it's all about. Our young innovators got an up-close, hands-on look at the fascinating world of recycling, sustainability, and waste management. From interactive exhibits to cool behind-the-scenes discoveries, students learned how the choices they make every day can make a massive, positive impact on our planet.
One of the absolute biggest highlights that blew the students away? Watching massive front loaders scoop up trash and push it straight into giant holes in the floor! They learned that the trash drops directly into semi-trucks parked below, which haul it off to the landfill only after packing in an incredible 80,000 pounds of waste.
From interactive exhibits to cool behind-the-scenes discoveries, students learned how the choices they make every day can make a positive impact on our planet. It was amazing to see their eyes light up as they connected science and technology to real-world environmental solutions — and saw the sheer size of those trucks in action!
We are so proud of our eco-heroes for diving in, asking great questions, and taking big steps toward a greener future.
