Digital Literacy Gets Students Stepping

During Digital Literacy class, our 3rd–5th grade students put their engineering and programming skills to the test by creating custom wearable step counters!
Using micro:bit mini computers, students programmed wearable devices that estimated their step counts around the school, field-tested their builds, and then analyzed the data collected.
Through this hands-on project, students applied block-based coding, computational thinking, data collection, and problem-solving. This real-world challenge provided the perfect opportunity for students to move beyond writing code and step into the shoes of true hardware designers and engineers!
