Double the Celebration: Shawnee and McKinley Earn State Momentum Awards

Xenia Community Schools is proud to announce that both Shawnee Elementary and McKinley Elementary have been recognized by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce with the 2025 Momentum Award.
This prestigious award is given to schools that demonstrate outstanding academic improvement while maintaining strong student growth. To qualify, schools must increase their Performance Index by 3 or more points from the previous year and earn a value-added Progress rating of 4 or more stars.
Out of all public schools in Greene County, only three earned this distinction this year, with two of them located within the Xenia Community Schools district.
Shawnee Elementary: A Tradition of Excellence
Shawnee continues to set a high bar for academic achievement, marking its third time receiving the Momentum Award (previously recognized in 2019 and 2023). Shawnee is one of just 55 public elementary schools in the entire state of Ohio to earn this honor for the 2024–2025 academic year.

McKinley Elementary: A Historic First
In a milestone moment for the district, McKinley Elementary students and staff joined their counterparts at Shawnee by earning the Momentum Award for the first time in school history. This achievement reflects a culture of unwavering commitment to student growth and development.
