Allison Boot, Ms. Wheelchair Ohio, Visits XHS Classes

Allison Boot, the current Ms. Wheelchair Ohio, visited Xenia High School on April 26 to share her message of self-acceptance and equality with some of our students who are traveling paths similar to hers — and who face many of the same challenges.

The crowd included nearly 50 students, teachers, and aides who enjoyed hearing about the way she forged her career path, and learned to advocate for herself along the way. The students particularly appreciated learning about how she lives her life independently with her husband and dogs, as well as her advice to overcoming obstacles and getting involved in their community.

Boot, who lives with cerebral palsy, is a three-time self-published author with an M.A. in Mass Communication. She writes characters with disabilities in literature geared toward young people to help them raise awareness, embrace differences, advocate for acceptance, and dream big.

She will he competing for the Ms. Wheelchair America in Michigan this August.
