JustWrite State Competition 2023

Writing Club Finds Success at JustWrite State Competition in First Year
Posted on 05/17/2023
On Thursday,  May 11, eight students from Xenia High School's new Writing Club competed in the state tournament for JustWrite Ohio.

As in the previous regional event, during which eight students qualified to compete at the state contest, teams from the Writing Club competed in two divisions: Division I (grades 9-10) and Division II (grades 11-12). For these competitions, students participate in three different rounds of writing in real-time! For each round, students enter their assigned room, are given a prompt and a specific genre, and have a set time to handwrite a story adhering to the guidelines — all without the use of technology.

At the state contest, Sophia Duke and Vincent Baker both advanced to the third round, where they each received first place in their groups and their stories are now being considered for publication. Senior Vincent Baker ultimately placed 13th out of 125 students in the junior/senior division.

All of the students did very well, and we are extremely proud of them for qualifying for state during their first year of competition!
