Posted on 03/16/2023
Congratulations to our Business Professionals of America (BPA) students at Xenia High School for their showing at the state competition on March 9-10!

Students competed in individual and team events against students from the 19 BPA regions across the state. In all, 3,000 students competed at the state level, with 19 entries — one from each region! — in each category.

Senior Hiba Loukssi finished in 3rd place in the Extemporaneous Speech category, and qualified for the national competition in Anaheim, CA this April.

COMPETITION RESULTS

Extemporaneous Speech: Hiba Loukssi
Place: 3rd of 19

For this competition, participants were given a choice of two topics, 10 minutes to prepare (without access to the internet!), and then delivered a 2- to 4-minute speech on the topic to a panel of judges. Because she placed 3rd, she will advance to the national competition that will be held in Anaheim, CA from April 26-30, 2023.

Broadcast News Production Team: RJ Davis, Vincent Baker, Chlo’e Moore-Comer
Place: 4th of 19

For this entry, the news production team created a 5-minute video project that covered both a local and a national story. They interviewed Ohio House Minority Leader Allison Russo for their story on staffing shortages, and our very own Coach Mo about the undefeated 2023 football season.

Video Production Team: Abby Seitz, Taylynn Hanson
Place: 6th of 19

The video production team created a 5-minute video project about endangered species, focusing their project on the Masai Giraffe. These two 9th graders had never previously used the software, and made a great showing as they competed against teams of upper classmen, many of whom are in that pathway full time!

Graphic Design Promotion: Allison Long
Place: 6th of 19

Allison created "skins" for three devices for a fictional gaming company. This design and branding project for a hypothetical gaming company included skins for a mobile device, laptop, and water bottle. Allison printed samples of her work and presented them for judging.

Keynote Convention Speeches: Trinity Cordell, Jaleiah McNeil
An honorable mention goes out to Trinity and Jaleiah! This year, Ohio BPA selected students from across the state to deliver keynote speeches for the event. While not an official competition category, Trinity and Jaleiah both submitted speeches and were selected. They delivered their speeches to a crowd of more than 3,000 competitors.
