McKinley Robotics Team Heads to Districts

2022 FLL Robotics Tournament at McKinley
Posted on 12/13/2022
This past weekend, 14 FIRST LEGO League (FLL) teams from across the region competed in a tournament competition at McKinley Elementary, marking the culmination of their regular season.

For the tournament, FLL robotics teams compete in head-to-head matches against other teams where each is awarded points for completing challenges that show the effectiveness of their robot’s design and programming. Throughout the season, teams have worked to design and program their bot, solve that year's programming challenge, and research a problem in their community. At the competition, they present their innovative solution to that problem to a panel of judges, who also evaluate the team’s robot design and programming. Teams also earn points for the content of their presentation, as well as their ability to work together and present as a team.

Our team from McKinley, X Marks the Bot, won the Engineering Excellence Award and was one of the top teams that are now invited to the Southwest Ohio District competition in February!

X Marks the Bot team members: Sophie Dugan (5th), Eliza Hawes (4th), Xavier Eltzroth (4th), Maddie Hollander (4th), Riley Fuchs (3rd), and Ivy Schaffer (3rd). They are coached by math teacher Tim Carey, who has been the FLL advisor at McKinley for 8 years.

A special thank you to Mrs. Johnston, who did a great job organizing the event and keeping all 14 teams on track throughout the day.

The tournament was supported by the Dayton Regional STEM Center
