Two Awards for Model UN

Model UN Students Receive Awards at UD Conference
Posted on 11/17/2022
Congratulations to two of our Model UN students who were recognized last week when they attended a conference held at the University of Dayton!

Vincent Baker won an Honorable Mention Award and Hiba Loukssi won a Distinguished Delegate Award. There were more than 100 students attending the conference, and we are incredibly proud of these seniors who stood out from the crowd.

At the conference, XHS sent a small delegation of four representatives: the team's Executive Board. Like at all Model UN conferences, these students served as delegates on large student topic committees, where they worked with other students to address issues such as food safety, renewable energy, and ending child slavery.

About Model UN
Model UN offers students the chance to simulate the work of the United Nations General Assembly. At conferences, students represent their assigned nation or group, assuming the role of ambassadors as they debate topics with other students. Through the process, students learn to create change and solve problems by developing their ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, negotiate with others, and reach a compromise to resolve issues.

During the conference, students are evaluated by experienced Model UN students who serve as the chair of each committee, and delegates are recognized at the end of the day for their ability to work well with others using those key skills.

Model UN is in its second year at Xenia High School and currently has 16 members. The group is open to high school students throughout the year, and anyone interested can reach out to Mrs. Parker for more information.
