A group of nearly 80 8th grade students made the traditional trek to Washington, D.C. this May, bringing the Social Studies curriculum that they studied over the past school year to life!

Over the jam-packed days, students toured Arlington National Cemetery, The Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, the National Archives, various Smithsonian museums, the National Zoo, Mt. Vernon, the National Museum of the U.S. Army, and even stopped by the White House for a photo opp.

In addition, students were able to view many of the memorials in the area, including Iwo Jima, the National 9/11 Memorial, U.S. Air Force, WWII, Vietnam, the Korean War, and the MLK Memorial, as well as those for Presidents Lincoln, Jefferson, and FDR.

A big THANK YOU to the intrepid adults who tagged along on this whirlwind adventure, too! A total of 8 teacher chaperones and 10 volunteers made this memorable trip possible. The trip was coordinated by 8th grade American History Teacher Justin Shirley.

A few photos from the trip can be seen on the XCS Facebook page.
