Throughout this school year, there will be times that our schedule will need to be adjusted. Whether due to a planned early dismissal for staff professional development or a delay due to inclement weather, families need to be aware of the various possibilities.

Four possible scenarios:
#1 - TWO HOUR EARLY DISMISSAL (NEW FOR 2021-22)
There are eight (8) days scheduled throughout the year when students will be dismissed two hours early. While in school on these days, students will arrive at their usual time, follow a shortened bell schedule, and dismissal will take place two hours ahead of normal. This means that buses will run two hours earlier in the afternoon on those dates.
*Note that the first scheduled early dismissal is Wednesday, September 22. Check the XCS Academic Calendar for all dates.
#2 - TWO HOUR DELAY (NO CHANGE)
Traditional weather delay to allow time for roads to be cleared, and students and staff to arrive safely. Schools begin two hours later, with a modified bell schedule for WMS and XHS students, and dismiss at the usual time.
#3 - REMOTE LEARNING DAY
If a two-hour delay is not sufficient to allow for safe travel, students will shift to a remote learning day. Classes will follow the same two-hour delay schedule for classes to allow for teacher planning and preparation.
K-5 STUDENTS
If a remote learning day is planned, or advance notice is possible, Chromebooks will be sent home with students to ensure that students and teachers continue to learn together. Students will interact with teachers using a shortened schedule for Math, ELA, Social Studies, and Science. Students will also participate in PE/ART/Digital Literacy/Music, based on their regular schedule for that day.
If there is no advance warning, students should work on assignments included in kits that will be sent home with them in November. Remember that these kits will contain up to three (3) days of work for K-5 students, so students are not expected to do all the work included in a single day! Teachers will still offer online instruction for students who are able to join, but students without internet access may complete assignments from the kits instead of logging on to participate.
6-12 STUDENTS
Warner Middle School and Xenia High School students will follow the normal 2-hour delay schedule for classes, meeting remotely with their teachers and checking assignments in Google Classrooms.
Students can get their bell schedules online or from their building's office, but for WMS this means that classes will be 35 minutes per period (6 periods) and for XHS this means that classes will be 25 minutes per period (8 periods).
EXPECTATIONS FOR ONLINE INSTRUCTION
- Teachers should have their cameras on for direct instruction.
- Students should have cameras on with backgrounds provided for privacy.
- Aides may email students about what to do during study hall and be present for questions.
#4 - CALAMITY DAY
On a Calamity Day, there will be no assignments, and students will not be required to log on or complete any work. While not common, an example of this would be the staff vaccination clinic days from last year, when staff were unavailable throughout the day.
