At a special meeting of the Board of Education on Monday, March 29, 2021, the Xenia Community Schools Board of Education voted to seat Mary Adeline Lewis as its newest member.

“We are pleased to have Ms. Lewis join the board, and we believe that she brings enthusiasm and a sincere love of Xenia and our schools to the table,” said Tamara Bartley, Board President. “As a graduate of Xenia High School who has returned to live in our community, the Board was impressed by the value she places on service and the importance of our public education system, as well as her thoughtful approach to becoming a member of the Board.”

One of nine applicants for the open seat, Ms. Lewis is a graduate of Miami University, as well as the University of Dayton Law School. She currently serves as an attorney in the Greene County Public Defender’s Office.

To be considered for the newly-open seat, Ms. Lewis submitted a letter of interest and completed an interview process, along with seven of the nine applicants. She was selected by the four current board members at Monday’s meeting; as required by Ohio law, this process was completed within 30 days of Jennifer Marietta’s resignation.

Ms. Lewis will be sworn in at the next regular meeting of the Board of Education on April 12, and will serve the remainder of the current term for this seat, which ends on December 31, 2021. This seat will be one of three filled for a new term on the November ballot.
