Juniors' Project Selected as EduHam Winner

Juniors' English 11 Project Nets National Prize
Posted on 03/04/2021
Congratulations to Juniors Brylee Dixon, Kelsey Kellner, and TreyShawn Hoskins! Their video, "Last Call for Peace," was selected as one of only five National Outstanding Performance Winners in the Hamilton Education Program Online.

The video about the Olive Branch Petition, which was submitted to the Hamilton Education Program Fall 2020 competition through the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, was completed as part of their English 11 unit entitled "Writing Freedom." The top three scoring projects from XHS were submitted by Ms. Burgess to the national competition.

The goal of the EduHam Online program is to "help students in grades 6–12 see the relevance of the Founding Era by using primary sources to create a performance piece (e.g., a song, rap, poem, or scene) following the model used by Lin-Manuel Miranda to create the musical Hamilton."

Along with the other winners, these three students will be invited to New York City next fall to participate in a workshop, meet the cast, view the Gilder Lehrman Institute’s collection of primary source documents, and — perhaps most importantly! — also attend a matinee performance of Hamilton. The students may also be offered the chance to perform their video during one of the play's intermissions while in New York.
