Xenia Community Schools is one step closer to having a new Head Football Coach on staff at Xenia High School as Dr. Gabe Lofton, Superintendent of Xenia Community Schools, will recommend hiring Maurice Harden to lead the Buccaneers football program to the XCS Board of Education at the upcoming February meeting.

“We are excited to bring Coach Harden on board to take our football program to the next level,” Lofton said. “The future of the football program looks bright, and I have confidence that the football knowledge and experience he brings will benefit our student-athletes for years to come.”

An alumnus of Urbana University, where he was a starting Fullback for four years and captain his senior year, Harden is very familiar with the area. Throughout the interview process, it was clear to the committee that he understands the importance of strong leadership, as well as the needs of Xenia students.

Most recently, Harden comes from Chaminade-Julienne High School, where he served as assistant coach for wide receivers, and was the co-offensive coordinator for the team. Harden coached for CJ from 2016 to the present.

“Coach Harden is excited to get started and brings a high level of enthusiasm and drive that is contagious,” Lofton said. “We are proud to bring in someone with his skill sets and character to the program.”

Harden was one of nearly three dozen applicants for the position, and underwent a rigorous interview and vetting process. He will start as soon as he is approved by the XCS Board of Education; his appointment will be included during the regular meeting on Monday, February 8.
