XCS Shifts to Remote Learning

XCS Shifts to Remote Learning on December 7
Posted on 12/01/2020
Today, based on the increase in both COVID-19 cases and the number of individuals impacted by quarantine within the district, as well as the overall community spread within Greene County, Xenia Community Schools has determined that the safest path forward is to temporarily close our buildings to prevent further spread.

Beginning Monday, December 7, we will move forward with 100% remote learning. Teachers will have Monday as a final prep day; students will not be in the building, but work will be provided by the district for this day. Full remote classes will start for students with their regular teacher(s) on Tuesday, December 8. We expect this model to remain in place for at least six weeks, with in-person learning tentatively set to resume on Monday, February 1. At that point, we will re-evaluate the situation and determine if we can safely reopen our school buildings.

We understand that this is disappointing news for our students, families, and staff who have been working hard to observe protocols and keep one another safe as we learn together. However, the health, safety, and well-being of our school community must remain our top priority. The district is following sound protocols aligned with expert health guidance to ensure we are doing everything we can to minimize risk and ensure the learning process can continue.

Students fall into one of three categories:

  • For in-school students, our school principals will follow up with you soon to provide more detail on how learning will look for your student, along with information about Chromebook distribution at the end of this week, as necessary. Be sure to review the Expectations for Students.

  • Students currently learning online will continue as-is on Edgenuity with their currently assigned teacher.

  • Students who opted to switch their second semester learning option will still make that shift on January 4, but will finish the semester in their current format (through December 18). Whether in person or online, these families will receive additional instruction from their newly-assigned teacher or building principal in the coming days about that transition.

Meal service will still be available for students throughout the closure. Families will be able to pick up meals daily at every building in the district; families with multiple children may pick up all meals at any location.

All WMS and XHS students should have their Chromebook and charger, making sure to take those items home with them at the end of the day on Friday, December 4. Elementary students will also take devices home with them on Friday; families should watch for additional instructions from their building principal.

All XCS families should watch for additional information from our school principals soon to provide more details about the shift to remote learning.

If your student has a disability or you have questions regarding how this will affect the services and supports your student receives, you can reach out to your teacher or our Special Education team directly

As always, the district would like to thank our community for their patience and understanding as we take this action to protect the health and safety of our school district community.
