National Honor Society recently organized a canned food drive that brought in an impressive
442 pounds of non-perishable food, enough to help
feed approximately 500 families in need.
The drive, which took place over a quick 4 days, encouraged students and staff to donate canned goods. With collection bins overflowing, the response far exceeded expectations and highlighted the school community’s commitment to supporting others.
As part of the initiative, a group of NHS students had the opportunity to tour the FISH Food Pantry. During the tour, students learned firsthand about the challenges faced by families experiencing food insecurity, the logistics involved in sorting and distributing donations, and the vital role volunteers play in helping meet basic needs.
“This experience really opened our eyes to how many people are struggling just in our own community,” said one student volunteer. “It felt good to know that our efforts are making a real difference.”
The FISH Food Pantry staff expressed their gratitude, noting that donations like these are essential to keeping their shelves stocked and their mission moving forward.
Thanks to the hard work of student organizers, volunteers, and donors, hundreds of families will now have access to meals they may have otherwise gone without. This food drive not only provided nourishment—it also planted seeds of empathy, service, and civic responsibility in the hearts of those who took part.
