Fall Buccaneer Attendance Challenge Heat Up November
Posted on 11/01/2024
Once again this year, we are kicking off a Fall Attendance Challenge for our K-5 buildings in November, leading into Fall Break!
For the Challenge, each elementary school will track their attendance rates from November 1-22, and the school with the highest percentage of attendance over the weeks will win the challenge, and keep the trophy until the next challenge is issued!
Why host an Attendance Challenge?
We know that students who come to school on time, every day benefit from being part of the school community, and that learning with their friends and peers daily helps improve their mental health. Chronic absence, which can mean missing as little as 2-3 days per month, can have a negative impact on critical student learning and long-term grades.
While the stakes for students are always high, this year the stakes for the principals during the Attendance Challenge are a little higher than normal. This year, the principal of the school with the lowest attendance percentage will wear the dreaded chicken suit one day in early December.
As a reminder, the trophy can change hands each time a challenge is issued. The current trophy holder from the Spring Challenge is Cox Elementary, so we will see if they can hold onto their position at the top, or if they will be knocked off by another school!
