XCS Invites the Xenia Community to Get Involved with Phase II of the Doug Adams Stadium Project
While demolition began this week for phase I of the Doug Adams Stadium renovation project, the district is already moving forward with preparations for phase II, planned for 2024.
“We have always known that there would have to be another round of projects at the stadium,” said Dr. Gabe Lofton, Superintendent. “We began with the areas of highest need, but the fact is that removing the grandstands also meant demolishing the locker rooms that were no longer serving the needs of our students.”
Temporary mobile locker rooms are now on site, and current plans are to use them for the 2023-2024 school year only.
While detailed plans for phase II are still in progress, this second phase will address other aging site structures. Initial plans for phase II include a field house with an enhanced training room, improved concessions, restrooms, and additional parking, as well as:
- Three Locker Rooms – 1) an 80-locker facility for football and lacrosse, 2) a 40-locker Boys Locker Room, and 3) a 40-locker Girls Locker Room. Each of these will be used seasonally for soccer and track, as well as space for visiting teams during the football season.
- Community Room – This large-yet-flexible gathering space would be part of the new field house structure, and designed to serve multiple group functions, as well as offer basic kitchen facilities.
"Ideally, we envision the community room being used for team meetings, meals, and study sessions, as well as parent meetings, uniform fittings, and training," said Nathan Kopp, Athletic Director. "Eventually, the room could also be made available for rent to various community groups, providing additional revenue to maintain and support the space indefinitely."
Funding for phase II, which is estimated at approximately $4 million, will be a mix of district capital funds, as well as private donations from the community.
“We are already receiving significant support for this project from our community, and those donations will allow us to make the best-possible facility we can for Xenia student-athletes,” Lofton said. “More than $350,000 has already been pledged privately for phase II, and we are offering other ways for our community to be part of this exciting project.”
Thanks to the generosity of the Doug Adams Trust, which has already pledged support for phase II of the renovation, a 16x9 video scoreboard has also been added to the overall project. Pending timeline and availability of materials, the scoreboard may be incorporated into phase I of the project and be in place for fall 2023.
