On Friday, February 28, 31 XHS students presented their research projects to a panel of judges as part of the 2025 Xenia High School Science Fair.

The annual event is part of the curriculum for the Honors Spectra Science class, the required science class for freshmen that focuses on the foundational knowledge and skills of physics, chemistry, and astronomy that prepare students for future scientific study.

For the science fair, a panel of judges work in small groups to interview each student and evaluate their project. Judges are teachers, school administrators, board members, or community volunteers with experience in science fairs or a background in the sciences.

Of the 31 participants this year, 14 received a “Superior” rating from the judges, while an additional 14 students received a rating of “Excellent”. The students receiving a “Superior” rating include: Easton Butler, Micah Fleming, Alyssa Ashcraft, Anna Hopson, Chloe Abriola, Lucy Cushman, Morgan Bennett, Devon Bottorff, Braxton Frauman, Connor Page, Logan Fischer, Zachary Elsner, Madelynn Ladd, and Avery Tate.

Students who received a rating of Superior or Excellent are eligible for recommendation to the Ohio Academy of Science Regional Science Day. Five of the students who are eligible have committed to move on to the regional event on Saturday, March 15 at the Miami Valley Regional Technology Center, where they will join other qualifying students from Greene, Montgomery, and Clark Counties.

The five students who will compete at the regional event are: Alyssa Ashcraft, Morgan Bennett, Easton Butler, Logan Fischer, and Layla Rouch.
