2022 XHS Science Fair

14 Students Qualify for Districts at XHS Science Fair
Posted on 03/04/2022
On Friday, February 25, 39 XHS students presented their research projects to a panel of judges as part of the 2022 Xenia High School Science Fair.

The annual event is part of the curriculum for the Honors Spectra class, the required science class for freshmen that focuses on the foundational knowledge and skills of physics, chemistry, and astronomy that prepare students for future scientific study. The program is designed to help students develop critical thinking and research skills over the year, while also working on their presentation skills.

For the science fair, a panel of more than 20 judges worked in small groups to interview each student and evaluate their project. Judges are teachers, school administrators, or community volunteers with experience in science fairs or a background in the sciences.

Of the 39 participants this year, 22 received a “Superior” rating from the judges, while an additional 13 students received a rating of “Excellent”. Students who received the Superior rating are eligible for recommendation to the Ohio Academy of Science District Science Day; 14 of the students who achieved that rating this year have been invited to participate. The event this year will be virtual, and XCS students will join other qualifying students from Greene, Montgomery, and Clark Counties in creating a video presentation of their project for judging later this month.

Students who qualified for districts:
Jocelyn Bohn, Kaylee Chubner, Kelan Cramer, Trimonde Henry, Lauren Johnson, Erin Kelly, Danny Lin, Alisha Lindsay, Brayden McClaskey, Gavin Neff, Sophie Robinson, Mariah Smith, Brett Vandergriff, Kamya West
