2022 Speech Festival Accepting Submissions

Xenia Community Schools is now accepting submissions for the 2022-2023 Speech Festival! For this annual competition, individual K-12 students are invited to compose a speech of two to three minutes on the chosen topic: Kindness, Empathy, and Compassion!
Each student will record and submit their speech virtually, following the age guidelines below. To submit your entry, the video should be uploaded and shared with [email protected].
Three finalists per age category will be invited to give their speech in person on December 12, and their speech will be scored by a panel of judges. After this competition, First, Second, and Third place winners will be announced.
AWARDS
1st place - $100 gift card
2nd place- $75 gift card
3rd place - $50 gift card
AGE GUIDELINES
Students who are in grades 3-12 will write a speech about the importance of kindness, empathy, and compassion, and the impact it has on building a positive community.
K-2 students can read their favorite poem about kindness, OR complete the 3rd-5th grade option for an extra challenge!
WHY HOST A SPEECH CONTEST?
The ability to speak well is a critical life skill, no matter what career path students take! Learning to be an effective speaker means speaking clearly and in complete sentences, making eye contact and controlling body language, using logic to persuade others, and even learning to construct an argument to make your point well. While many students — and adults! — fear public speaking, being able to communicate verbally can have a positive impact on students throughout their life.

SCORING
All speeches submitted virtually will be scored using a rubric to assess speech content, presentation style, body language, and more. Three finalists per category will be scored by a panel of judges in person on December 12 to determine the winners.
TIMELINE
Nov 29, 2022 - Deadline to submit a speech virtually
Dec 9, 2022 - Three finalists from each grade level band will be selected.
December 12, 2022 - All finalists will compete at the XCS Central Office! 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be announced.
