2022 Entrepreneur Showcase

2022 XTAR Entrepreneur Showcase
Posted on 05/04/2022
Students in the fourth-grade gifted program are once again hosting a showcase of projects from the annual entrepreneur program.

Each year, students in the District’s gifted learning program complete an entrepreneur chapter that culminates in a showcase targeting family, friends, and the school community. For the entrepreneur program, students complete a small business simulation, where they develop a business plan, acquire a "bank" loan, develop a website to showcase their business and product, and manufacture goods to be sold during the showcase.

This year’s event will take place at Benner Field House on Thursday, May 5 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. There are 44 students in this year’s fourth grade gifted class who are participating in the event, and student sales will begin at 6:30 p.m.

About the Entrepreneur Showcase

The entrepreneur program is designed to meet several Ohio curriculum standards in the areas of financial literacy, technology, and social studies, while also reinforcing critical 21st century skills. Through this project, students learn to work as a team, solve problem, make compromises, work through adversity, make hard decisions about allocating resources, and divide the work load among team members.

A program that started in 2003 as a 3-day small business simulation in the classroom, the program evolved in 2014 to the current showcase format. This annual community event allows student teams to brainstorm products, pitch a business plan to secure a loan, make the product, and sell it to community members. The first ten percent of money raised through the Showcase is donated to a charity voted on by the students, and the remaining funds are used to pay it forward to the next group of fourth graders to support their future Showcase.
