Join us in congratulating our 2019 award winners: LaShann Latimer, Teacher of the Year, and Heather Horsley, Support Staff Person of the Year! Last spring we asked for nominations of staff members who stand out for being dedicated to their job, for their willingness to help colleagues and others, and for their outstanding character. Ms. Latimer and Ms. Horsley embody all of those characteristics and more!

Ms. Latimer is a teacher at Cox Elementary and Ms. Horsley is the Attendance Officer at Warner Middle School.

Ms. Latimer has more than 25 years of experience in the classroom. She received an impressive nine nominations for this award. This teacher is known for the relationships she builds with her students. She reaches her students on a personal level and does whatever she can to enhance the learning environment in her classroom to ensure her students succeed. She is a pillar in the Xenia community and has had immeasurable impact on countless students' lives. She creates a positive atmosphere and motivates not only her students but her colleagues as well. She’s confident, assertive, and she draws attention and respect. 

Ms. Horsley has worked has worked in our district for 20 years. She constantly strives for protection and takes pride in her job, and she does her duties extremely well. As attendance officer, she strives for perfection and knows where students are located at any moment of the day, and keeps staff constantly informed. She makes every school visitor feel welcome with her positive attitude and friendly smile. Outside of her usual job duties, she volunteered last school year for Crayons to Classrooms, and she brought colleagues along with her. This volunteerism resulted in her school receiving thousands of dollars worth of donations from the organization. She also mentors a group of students. She shows amazing rapport with them, working with them daily, and giving them the encouragement they need to be successful.
