Samari Curtis is MR. BASKETBALL!

Samari Curtis named Mr. Ohio Basketball by the Associated Press
It's a good day to be a Buccaneer! Congratulations to Xenia senior Samari Curtis for being named Ohio Mr. Basketball today by the Associated Press. This is a HUGE honor!

Samari is considered the best of the best in the entire state out of a pool of 20,000 players. He's joining the ranks of NBA players LaBron James and Luke Kennard in earning the Mr. Basketball title. "LaBron James is the reason I started playing basketball. To receive an award that he got is humbling," he said. Samari is headed to the University of Cincinnati this fall to play for the Bearcats.

While playing as a Buccaneer, Samari rewrote the record books for boys basketball - scoring 2,109 career points, holding the single game scoring record with 52 points, and holding the single season scoring record with 816 points. "Receiving this award speaks to the legacy that Samari is leaving here in Xenia," said Kent Anderson, Head Boys Basketball Coach. "This shows that you can be here in Xenia and have team and individual success and be bolstered up to be selected as the best player in the state of Ohio. That speaks well to our school and to our city."

Samari's goal has always been to be a star in the role that he plays on the court. "I strive to make a play when I can and I play hard all four quarters until that buzzer sounds at the end." Hard work has definitely paid off.

Congratulations Samari!
