Gifted Program Moving to the Preschool Building

Staff from the Xenia Community Schools Elementary Gifted Program, known as X.T.A.R., are excited to announce that they will be moving the program to classroom space located in the upstairs of Xenia Preschool, 425 Edison Boulevard.

They’ll also be unveiling a new project-based learning environment in their new location called “makerspace.” This innovative space will help staff transform the educational experience for gifted students by continuing to support a culture of learning by doing.

Students will continue to learn and develop a set of 21st century skills that are necessary for them to meet real world challenges head on and to prepare them for the jobs of tomorrow.

As the students use design thinking to invent, collaborate, and tinker in the makerspace, it is our hope that they feel empowered to become the next generation of change agents making a difference - not only in Xenia, but throughout the world.

The makerspace will house vertical grow towers for students to grow a variety of vegetables using a combination of hydroponics and aeroponics. A sewing area, workbench with hand tools, and a Cricut crafting space will allow students to use their creativity skills to design and manufacture endless projects. The Sphero robotics lab will allow students to explore careers in computer science and engineering. Finally, a creation station will provide students with supplies necessary to complete STEM challenges.
