Elementary Start Time Change

Elementary Start Time Change
Beginning next school year, our elementary buildings will be changing their start time from 9:15 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. The ending time for the school day will be the same - 3:15 p.m.

This additional 15 minutes will benefit student achievement by lengthening the instructional day, resulting in more time learning in the classroom.

The additional 15 minutes will also benefit the elementary buildings when it comes to calculating calamity days and possible make up days. Calamity days are calculated by the hour, not by the day. Elementary buildings currently have the shortest instructional day in the district. By adding 15 minutes to the instructional day, elementary building will be less likely to have to make up calamity days.

Each elementary may vary this schedule by a few minutes, but in general: Beginning next school year, elementary buildings will open at 8:25 a.m. for students eating breakfast. The first bell releasing students to their classrooms will ring at 8:45 a.m. The tardy bell will ring at 9:00 a.m. and a student will be considered tardy if they are not in school at that time.

Bus times will change and will be communicated to parents this summer.

If parents have any questions regarding this new start time, they are asked to contact their child's school principal.
