This coming school year, each student in grades kindergarten through 12 will have access to their own Chromebook. This One2One Technology Initiative enables students to access education through technology in a 21st century learning environment.
Each student in grades K-12 will be issued a Chromebook. As an instructional tool, this is a requirement for all students. Grades K-1 will maintain class sets that will stay in classrooms; grades 2-5 will store individual devices in classrooms; grades 6-12 will take devices home.
Each student will be charged a $25 tech integration charge, which is non-waivable. Additionally, students in grades 6-12 will be required to purchase a case to protect the Chromebook.
Grades 6 & 9 will have brand new devices; cost of case is $20. Grades 7, 8, 10, 11, 12 will have slightly used devices; cost of case is $10. Families must purchase cases through the district at the time of distribution. The case is property of the student and will be a one-time charge unless the student wishes to purchase a new one at a later date.
The Chromebook is the property of XCS. Students are responsible at all times for the care of the device to which they are assigned. The district recognizes that with a One2One initiative, there is a need to protect the investment by both the District and the student/parent. Therefore, we have set a flat fee of an additional $25 for every necessary repair. This includes incidental damages.
At the time of distribution, families will have the opportunity to assess any slightly used device for damages. Distribution of Chromebooks is at the discretion of the building principal - to take place at an assigned time or Open House. Should a family not be able to attend, another opportunity will be made available to them.
XCS recognizes that understanding and using technology is an integral part of virtually every aspect of daily life, and especially a 21st century learning environment. It is our district’s responsibility to prepare students for this future. When integrated into instruction, technology will support new strategies and opportunities for teaching and learning!
